An affirmation is a short, positive statement you repeat to yourself. A gratitude affirmation is one that turns your attention toward what is already good: the people, comforts, and moments you might otherwise overlook. Unlike “I will be rich” or “I attract success,” gratitude affirmations don’t promise anything. They simply help you notice.
The 100 affirmations below are original to Sunrise Gratitude and free to print, share, or use in your journal.
How to use gratitude affirmations
- Choose one or two that feel true. An affirmation you don’t believe can backfire. Pick words that fit where you are today.
- Make them specific. “I am grateful for the people who love me” becomes stronger when you add a name: “…especially Dad, who called this morning.”
- Pair them with a habit. Say one while the coffee brews, on your commute, or as you brush your teeth.
- Write them down. Add one to your Sunrise Journal entry, or write it on a sticky note for the mirror.
- Share one. Turn a favorite into a free gratitude card and send it to someone.
A note on evidence: researchers have studied gratitude journals and letters far more than affirmations, and those practices have the clearer track record. (Emmons & McCullough, 2003) (Seligman et al., 2005) Think of affirmations as a gentle reminder to practice gratitude, not a replacement for it. Common questions
What is a gratitude affirmation?
A gratitude affirmation is a short, positive statement that focuses your attention on what you’re thankful for, such as “I have enough for today” or “I am grateful for the people who love me.” Repeating one can serve as a reminder to notice the good in your life.
How do you write your own gratitude affirmation?
Start with “I am grateful for…” or “I appreciate…”, name something real and specific, and keep it short enough to remember. It should feel true to you today, not like a wish.
What is a good morning gratitude affirmation?
Try “Today is a new day, and I’m grateful to begin it” or “I will notice at least one good thing today.” Say it before you check your phone.
Do gratitude affirmations work?
There’s much less research on affirmations than on gratitude journaling or gratitude letters. Many people find them a helpful reminder, but if you want a research-tested practice, try a gratitude journal or the Three Good Things exercise.
